Whether you are starting a new business, needing a turn-around, or just wanting to improve your business, we recommend that you at least consider completing a business plan if you have not already done so. You will likely need one if you wish to obtain a small business loan and it will help you to guide your completion of this startup plan. If you are starting up a new company and need a loan, you will also need to do steps 5 and 6 below of our business plan to include your business’ name in your plan.
However, a business plan can be very time consuming and if you are a self-financed sole-proprietorship or a single person LLC, it may be a waste of your time to do one just for yourself. We offer a simple business plan template for free. But again, if you don’t need to obtain outside funding, between doing a marketing plan in the next step and using our startup plan, you are covered fairly well.
There are many free business plan templates out there for this purpose. But beware that online free form completion sites can do a good job of creating your plan but will likely require you to pay or to create an account before you can save and/or print your plan that you put together, and once you have added another account you will likely be sent more emails that you probably don’t want or need as they try to sell you on other things. Hopefully, you can unsubscribe, but some companies might sell your information to others. Also, your online business plan normally has to be done in one sitting, and that may be very difficult to do.
Some companies with business plans may recommend software companies that you pay a monthly fee to. We agree that one should review their business plan at least annually and probably more frequently for new startups. But we don’t agree with having to pay a monthly fee for software to use in creating your plan. To avoid all this, we recommend you just use our simple, free plan found here using the button below. You can also use the free plan samples provided on the U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) website at: www.sba.gov/business-guide/plan-your-business/write-your-business-plan. You can open those files for editing in Microsoft Word or whatever word processor you are using that can open Word formatted .doc
