Begin Building Your Website
Begin building your website. Whether you build it yourself, whether you buy a cheap site, or whether you pay a developer to create your site is a big question. Not everyone can build their own site easily, especially if it will be an ecommerce site (selling online). But a cheap site may not do what you want it to, you may not be able to revise it yourself, and the cost of running it in the long run may be steep. Hiring a developer is normally the most expensive way to go, but many don’t have a choice. We recommend that you try to do it yourself with WordPress and Elementor Pro if you are reasonably computer literate. We learned it ourselves in a weekend, and we’ve been using it for a while now, so we have built this site ourselves.
a. Based on the time it may take to get the website up and running, you may want to start developing it now—see section 24 below.
b. WordPress is a website building software application that is available on most all website host platforms. However, most hosting is not optimized for WordPress, so we make a specific recommendation about the hosting you should consider, while we do recommend the use of WordPress. See section 6b above.
c. Whether you build it yourself, or have a developer build it, to develop a good WordPress website, we recommend adding Elementor Pro (elementor.com) for a page builder (as we have) and Yoast SEO Pro (www.yoast.com) for SEO purposes (as we have). You will need to at least have Elementor Pro up-front but should have both so that you can use them while you are building your site! At the time of this writing, Elementor Pro will cost you $60 to $84 depending on your site for a year, while Yoast Pro will cost you $118.80 to $178.80 depending on your site for a year. These prices are for one WordPress website.
d. With Elementor Pro installed, we recommend you start your WordPress site by creating templates for your header and footer. Then add free plugins for each topic that you want to cover within your site. You can expand to paid versions of the plugins later if you want and need to.
- You will want Yoast Duplicate Post so that you can clone website pages and then modify them. That makes building your website go faster. And, it’s a free plugin for WordPress.
- If you are going to sell anything online, add WooCommerce to your WordPress website. It’s free! It can be set up for selling services, physical products, and downloadable products. And it can be setup to accept payments. If you don’t use WooCommerce, then don’t forget to tie-in a different shopping cart and merchant account to your website if you are going to sell anything online. We recommend the use of WooCommerce if it fits your needs.
